// Chile - Easter Island - Scientific mission led by the Italian archaeologist Giuseppe Orefici: In the 17th century, the cult of the birdman was also found in clothing: ceremonial finery was made from bird feathers. But there too, the resources of the island were limited: at the end of the 18th century, migratory birds disappeared from the islets, gradually causing a questioning of the cult. Since the islets Motu Iti and Motu Nui were classified in 1990 as a nature reserve, the birds and their offspring have taken possession of the premises.
