// Chile - Easter Island - Scientific mission led by the Italian archaeologist Giuseppe Orefici: Giuseppe Orefici's team retraces on horseback (the safest means of transport in this tormented landscape) the course of the Moais on one of the many paths that left from the Rano Raraku volcano to join the Ahus, religious sites where the giant statues were erected. On the edges of the path, many fragments of statues that did not resist the trip. Indeed, the volcanic tuff of which the statues are made is a lighter mineral than granite or limestone: it is easier to sculpt but also more fragile.
