South Atlantic Ocean - United Kingdom - Saint Helena Island : After twelve days at sea on the RMS St. Helena, (British post ship) from the stopover in the Canary Islands, the island of St. Helena, located 1900 km west of Africa in the middle of the South Atlantic , is in sight. On August 7, 1815, Napoleon embarked on Northumberland, which would take him to this island after a three-month crossing. On his arrival, he was first accommodated at the Briars pavilion, before returning to his final place of detention on December 10, on the Longwood plateau. Whipped by wind and rain, submerged in fog and humidity, the location of the exile's house made it easy for the men of Hudson Lowe, the governor of the island, to keep watch.
