South Atlantic Ocean - United Kingdom - Saint Helena Island : Map of the island of Saint Helena, located 1900 km west of Africa in the southern Atlantic. On August 7, 1815, Napoleon embarked on Northumberland, which took him to this island after a three-month crossing. On his arrival, he was first accommodated at the Briars pavilion, before returning to his final place of detention on December 10, on the Longwood plateau. Whipped by wind and rain, submerged in fog and humidity, the location of the exile's house made it easy for the men of Hudson Lowe, the governor of the island, to keep watch.
