Aerial view of the stadium of Olympia. In the background on the left, the sanctuary of Olympia. On the right, the sacred hill of Mount Kronion. The stadium’s current aspect dates back to the 4th century B.C. The length of the track is 192.27 meters long, or 600 Olympic feet, which became the official distance of all ancient stadiums. The spectators sat on the slopes on the ground, only the hellanodices’ (referees) stand on the east was made of stone. 45 000 spectators could sit on the stadium’s slopes to watch the competitions.
