Discovered at a site in Champagne, this small bronze disk is one of the most mysterious of Celtic artifacts. It is an exquisitely designed decoration used to adorn the chariots of the highest ranking dignitaries. According to Jean-Loup Flouest, professor at the museum of Celtic civilization at the European Archeologhical Center of Mont Beuvray, this long-studied artifact proves how history has underestimated the Celts’ scientific knowledge. The creators of this disk were masters of circular geometry: over 190 circles and arcs had to have been drawn with immense precision to create the decoration of this object. Based on 8 and 27, which were favorite numbers of Pythagorean numerology, this artifact proves the exchange of intellectual thought between the elite Latin scientists and the Celtic druids.
