To the left and right of the entrance of Hau-Nefer’s tomb, the limestone blocks making up the entrance have been defaced. It would appear that parts of the biographic text depicting the priest’s life have been intentionally erased. The beginning of the text is still visible, and reads “Loved by Anubis, loved by Osiris, loved by the King and their Gods…I was a…”. Then the text is gone. Did the missing text reveal details about a contested rise to the throne by Userkare, Pepi I’s predecessor?
