In this Old Kingdom street lined with rock-built tombs discovered by the IFAO team, the entrance to the first tomb is almost open. The name of the owner is visible, and reads “Hau-Nefer”. An Old Kingdom character emerges from the sands. Vassil Dobrev, decrypting the hieroglyphs, learns that Hau-Nefer was the royal officiating priest in the funerary temple of Pepi I, third king of the VIth dynasty. Hau-Nefer was also very close to the king and was a high priest.
