At the Tabbet al-Guesh site, the team begins the stratagraphic dig, exposing layers chronologically. Only 50 cm from the surface, they expose a forgotten necropolis, containing a wooden anthropoid sarcophagus in fantastic shape and dating to the Late Period (750-732 BCE). Here, another wooden sarcophagus. The team takes careful note of the context of discovery in order to locate the artifact in the greater chart of the excavation. Each artifact is also photographed on location for archiving.
