Bataille du Hartmanswillerkopf (colline du Vieil Armand) : Cimetière (au premier plan) et monument national (en arrière plan), l'un des quatre avec ceux de Notre Dame de Lorette, Dormans et Douaumont. Ce dernier abrite une crypte avec 1264 tombes identifiées et 6 ossuaires (12000 soldats inconnus). En arrière plan à droite, le Grand Ballon des Vosges. Position stratégique dominant la plaine d'Alsace, environ 300000 hommes se sont battus ici pour reconquérir (pour les français) ou défendre (pour les allemand) l'Alsace. Environ 50000 hommes y sont morts au combat ou disparus.
