Saint Mihiel Salient : Hill of Montsec. Visible from far away, the american monument of the hill of Montsec (which constituted an observation post for the Germans from 1914 to the summer of 1918) commemorates the offensive of the first U.S. Army in September 1918 and the battles of the second U.S. Army in November 1918, to release the Salient. In the center of the monument, a plan-relief locates in detail the various sectors of the offensive which has eliminated the St. Mihiel Salient. In the background, the crest of the hills of the Meuse, which was the front line throughout the duration of the war.
