Saint Mihiel Salient: Near the village of Apremont Forest, the area of Bois Brûlé and Cross of Redoutes during the Great War. It is here that the April 8, 1915, the Adjutant Jacques Péricard launches to his exhausted soldiers his famous :"Arise the Dead !", the only way for him to urge them to fight again. In the foreground, the remains of the French trenches of the front lines. Behind the sandbags, the trenches of the first German lines, astonishingly close (less than 30 meters away). This area is sadly notorious as one where there was the most deaths per square meter. (This historic photo archive is not available for sale and only presented here to set the context).
