Saint Mihiel Salient: The area of the "Trench of Thirst" during the Great War, 10 km from the town of St. Mihiel. From 22 to 25 May 1915, the French troops of the 172nd Infantry Regiment stand three days in the encirclement of German before being forced to surrender due to lack of water and food, and be captured . That is why it was called "Trench of Thirst." (This historic photo archive is not available for sale and only presented here to set the context).
