Site of Eparges: Portrait of the writer Alain Fournier in 1914. The bodies of the french writer Alain Fournier of his twenty comrades, killed in action September 22, 1914, were discovered only in 1991 after more than 70 years of an enigmatic disappearance. They are lying upside down in a mass grave excavated by the Germans (photo 215). Today, they are buried in the cemetery of the village of Saint Remy la Calonne. Alain Fournier is the author of the famoux novel "Le Grand Meaulnes". (This historic photo archive is not available for sale and only presented here to set the context).
