Battle of Verdun : Verdun, Monument to Victory and Children of Verdun, inaugurated by french President Gaston Doumergue in 1929. Built by architect Leon Chesnay in a breach of the medieval walls, a long staircase leads to a crypt intended for gold book of French and US soldiers holders of the Medal of Verdun books. At the top of the monument, a statue of Frankish warrior by sculptor Leon Boucher.
