Battle of Verdun : Monument and sculpture of Mort Homme, near the village of Chattencourt. This statue of the sculptor Jacques Froment-Meurice was built by the elders of the 69th Infantry Division. Emerging from his shroud, standing, the skeleton of the soldier cries out for victory. It focuses on an arm a flag, a symbol of the nation for which he sacrificed himself, the other arm he holds the torch of victory. On the base of the monument, the phrase "They have not passed," recalls the sacrifice of French fighters for possession and retention of this observatory hill on the left bank of the Meuse, a strategic site for both sides.
