Battle of Verdun: Village destroyed of Fleury devant Douaumont. On the site of the old church, the chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Europe. In spring 1916, this strategic town for both sides is captured and recaptured 16 times by French and German soldiers, reflecting the intensity of the fighting. Included in the "Red Zone" after the war, the village has never been rebuilt.
