Battle of Verdun: Remains of the "Gut of London" (a gut is a perpendicular trench which allows different lines of trenches to communicate). Built in 1917, this communication artery linked the Fort Douaumont and the first French trench lines (located near the village of Douaumont, now destroyed) to lines from the rear.
