Battle of Verdun: Four Chimneys Shelter. Located in the southern slope of the ravine des Vignes, it was a major shelter of the sector of Verdun, which housed the forward command posts and emergency stations of French army. In the basement, a long underground room surmounted by aeration chimneys. Dug 12 meters deep, it is in the form of a long vaulted gallery 60 meters long made of brick. Two extended by a long staircase entrances allow access. Aeration is provided by four chimneys, which gave its name to the shelter.
