Located at the foot of the ruins of the destroyed village of Montfaucon en Argonne, this granite tower of 58 meters shaped as Doric column is topped by a statue of 'Genius Liberator' of 7 feet tall. It commemorates the victory of the First U.S. Army. The village of Montfaucon was the highlight of the region and a major German observatories and was recaptured by U.S. troops under General Pershing at the decisive Meuse-Argonne offensive in September 1918.
