Battles of the Marne : Reims and its Cathedral during the Great War. The city was 80% destroyed by German bombing. On 19 September 1914, a bombardment set fire to the structure of the cathedral : the fire melted the bells and weights of the windows, then burst the stone. Martyrized by four years of war, the monument has been restored with contributions from generous donors, especially Americans.
