- Bombardment of Paris by the German gun nicknamed the 'Big Bertha' during the war. From March to August 1918, the German army took aim for the Paris region, 120 km from the site of Crépy, with guns size (never seen at the time) of 750 tons for a tube of 34 meters long. These guns were nicknamed 'Big Bertha' by Parisians. Curiously, the Germans designated, on their side, in the same term, a very different gun, very large size but very short range ... The real purpose of the operation was to create a psychosis among the population of Paris, in order to influence the conduct of the war and bring the French government to surrender.
