Bataille de la Somme : Cimetière et Chapelle du souvenir français de Rancourt. Ce village était situé sur l'axe stratégique de communication (allemand à l'époque) entre Bapaume et Péronne. La mission confiée au 32ème corps d'armée français le 25 septembre 1916 fut de rompre cet axe. Aujourd'hui, le cimetière de Rancourt est la plus vaste nécropole française de Somme (28000 m2, 8566 soldats dont 3223 dans l'ossuaire). La Chapelle du Souvenir est, quant à elle, le haut lieu - et presque le seul- du souvenir de la participation française à la bataille de la Somme.

Battle of the Somme: French Cemetery and remembrance Chapel of Rancourt. This village was located on the strategic axis of communication (German at the time) between Bapaume and Peronne. The mission of the 32nd French Corps on September 25, 1916 was to break this axis. Today, the cemetery of Rancourt is the largest necropolis for French in Somme (28000 meter suare, 8566 soldiers, with 3223 soldiers in the ossuary). The remembrance Chapel is the high place, and almost the only, memory place of the French participation at the Battle of the Somme.
