Today the digging sites confirm what Greek geographer Strabon wrote two thousand years ago: Necropolis was organized like a veritable city with paved streets, houses, gardens, wells, water tanks, as we can see on this part of the site. At the time of the Ptolemy Kings, Necropolis, which spanned three square kilometers, was nearly as extensive as the city of the living.
