Level of the Rose. At the center of west facade, Notre Dame, the Virgin to whom the cathedral is dedicated. The statue of the Virgin Mary stands in the center of the facade, front to the rose, to welcome the 20 million of visitors who tread the square each year. With nearly 10 meters in diameter, the great Rose has long been the largest that builders have dared to assemble. Its design is so perfect that none of its elements moved for more than seven centuries. View from the square, it forms like an aureole to the the Virgin. In the background, the Pont au Double, Lagrange street, the Pantheon and Sorbonne university. Altitude 27 meters.
