Aerial view of modern Cairo from the right bank of the Nile. In the center, the red bricks of the famous Egyptian Museum house the essence of Egyptian civilization. Originally made up of the collection of the father of Egyptology in the XIXth century, Auguste Mariette, the collection now boasts nearly 120 000 pieces and largely exceeds the available display area. The Museum this year celebrated its 100th anniversary while awaiting the construction of a new museum.
To the left of the museum is the Arabe League and the Nile Hilton Hotel. In the background, Zamalek Island.
