Remains on Niederkirchner strasse. This micro district has a special place in German history of the twentieth century. Between 1933 and 1945, Niederkirchner strasse greeted the key centers of National Socialists, near the historic government. The current site (in foreground) housed the headquarters of the Gestapo and the Ministry of Internal Security of the Reich, created by the Nazis (photo 54, the remains of underground cells where there were torture and interrogation). The current site (in foreground) housed the headquarters of the Gestapo and the Ministry of Internal Security of the Reich, created by the Nazis (photo 54, the remains of underground cells where there were torture and interrogation). At left, Prince Albrecht Hotel was the headquarters of the SS. In the background, the building housed the Department of Aeronautics Reich, led by Goering. The history of this place, from which the Nazis scheduled a reign of terror they were going to prevail in Europe, is summarized by the exhibition "Topography of Terror", between the visible remains of the foundation walls of the former Gestapo headquarters, bombed and destroyed at the end of World War II. Thanks to the initiative of the staff of this center, a portion of wall, originally intended for destruction, has been preserved and classified an historic monument in 1990. The land includes a section of wall along 200 meters. The west side, the wall was full of slogans and other claims. It often found the inscription "Down with the Wall!", Which reflected the feeling inspired by the wall to the people of West Berlin. The section has been retained attacks souvenir hunters, seekers, and their chisels. In many places, this portion of the wall, now protected by an enclosure of the public, is cut up and deboned to its steel frame. Formerly known as border Wall "type 75", this wall is the fourth generation of work, built from the mid-70s. It consists of vertical segments L-shaped, high 3.60 meters, 1.20 meters wide, which was capped by a smooth asbestos 40 cm in diameter. With its base, this wall had the advantage of being installed on all types of terrain without deep foundations stabilized. Stronger than the previous generation, it was almost impassable for a vehicle and an external aspect (west) more carefully.
